NNPP Dismisses Claims Kwankwaso Backed APC Defection in Kano

Date:

The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has dismissed as false reports claiming that its national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has endorsed the defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and other party members to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement issued on Wednesday, NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, described the report as a “deliberate falsehood,” insisting that Kwankwaso has neither changed his position nor given approval for any defection to the APC.

The rebuttal followed a viral report circulated on Tuesday night, which claimed that Kwankwaso had expressed support for Governor Yusuf and other NNPP office holders joining the ruling party. The report was said to be based on a short video allegedly shared on Facebook by Kwankwaso’s media aide.

Johnson said those behind the report were deliberately twisting Kwankwaso’s words to mislead the public and justify their planned political moves.

He accused individuals seeking to leave the party of attempting to falsely associate their actions with Kwankwaso’s influence, warning against what he described as intentional misrepresentation.

According to the NNPP spokesperson, Kwankwaso has instead criticised some members of the party, including those aligned with the Kano State governor, for betraying the trust placed in them by the people of the state.

Johnson said the former Kano governor remains focused on reducing political tension in the state and has made it clear that anyone who wishes to defect is free to do so without dragging his name into the matter.

He added that Kwankwaso believes political accountability ultimately rests with the electorate and that those who betray public trust will face judgment at the polls.

The NNPP reaffirmed that Kwankwaso remains committed to the party and has not endorsed any move to weaken its structure ahead of future elections.
