NSIB Probes Aircraft Incident At Kano Airport

Date:

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced investigation into an aircraft incident involving a Hawker 800XP at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano State.

The aircraft, with registration number 5N-ISB and operated by Flybird Aircraft Management Services Limited, departed Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Sunday, 14 December 2025, at about 9:20 a.m. local time.

It was operating a non-scheduled domestic passenger flight to Kano with eight people on board—two pilots, one cabin crew member and five passengers.

According to NSIB, the flight crew reported an abnormal landing gear indication while approaching Kano and requested several low passes over the runway to enable air traffic controllers to visually confirm the status of the landing gear. The Kano control tower confirmed during each pass that all three landing gears appeared fully extended.

The aircraft was later positioned for landing on Runway 06 and touched down at approximately 10:34 a.m. local time. During the landing roll, the nose landing gear collapsed. All occupants safely evacuated the aircraft, and no injuries were recorded.

Following notification of the incident, the NSIB activated its Go-Team to commence an on-site investigation. Investigators will examine the aircraft systems, operational procedures, maintenance records and crew actions to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to a statement signed by Mrs Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji Director, Public Affairs and Family Assistance Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, the Bureau emphasised that the investigation is not intended to apportion blame or liability, but to identify safety concerns and prevent similar occurrences in the future. Adding that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
