The Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for delivering a new 80-bed maternal and child healthcare facility in Ugbuwangue, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The facility, named Renewed Hope Mother and Child Specialist Hospital, Ugbuwangue, was built by the Federal Government through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and officially handed over on Tuesday to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Olu of Warri described the hospital as a “cherished and appreciated” intervention that would significantly improve healthcare access for women and children in the community.
“Without health, there is no wealth. Wealth is meaningless without health,” the monarch said. “This hospital will, without any doubt, transform the Ugbuwangue community. It is therefore well cherished and appreciated.”
He urged residents to protect the facility and ensure 24-hour accessibility, stressing the need for unhindered access in emergency situations.
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, also praised the project, calling it “a beacon of hope” that aligns with the state’s M.O.RE Agenda. He commended the Federal Government’s investment in healthcare, saying it represents a vital step toward achieving health-related Sustainable Development Goals.
“This project is not just a physical structure; it is a critical step forward in achieving sustainable healthcare,” Oborevwori said, pledging to integrate the hospital into the state’s healthcare system.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, highlighted the project as part of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which she said is rooted in social inclusion, equity, and accelerated national development outcomes.
Warri South council chairman, Comrade Isaac Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, described the facility as a “live demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda in Warri,” noting that it would help reduce maternal and child mortality in the area.
Receiving the hospital on behalf of FMC Asaba, Acting Medical Director Dr. Ekeneam Omo assured the community that patients would be treated with “dignity, empathy, and excellence.”
He revealed that the hospital is equipped with emergency, female, paediatric, neonatal, and labour wards; an intensive care unit; a modern theatre; consulting rooms; a laboratory; staff quarters; and an alternative power supply. He, however, appealed for more land and advanced equipment, including digital X-ray and CT scan machines, to enhance services.
