The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has pledged to intervene in the ongoing dispute between Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, and the Nigerian government.
Igboho, who was declared wanted after the Department of State Services (DSS) raided his Ibadan residence in July 2021 and claimed to have discovered a cache of arms, has appealed to the monarch to help clear his name from the government’s wanted list.
Speaking at his palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State, over the weekend, the Ooni assured Igboho that he would reach out to the government on his behalf. The monarch also stated that he had forgiven the activist for past remarks directed at him.
“I am not angry with you because I am the father of all. You are a brave man and our pride in Yorubaland, and you will not die young,” the Ooni said.
He expressed gratitude that Igboho survived the ordeals that followed his clash with security agencies, adding that he would work to ensure his name is expunged from the wanted list.
“Ile-Ife is the source of the universe, and no one wants peace and the development of Yorubaland more than I do,” the monarch added.
