Health workers in Ekiti State on Tuesday commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for implementing people-centred reforms that have significantly revitalised the state’s healthcare sector.
Medical professionals—including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, midwives, and environmental health officers—marched from Fajuyi Pavilion to the Governor’s Office in Ado Ekiti to express their appreciation. The group presented a plaque titled “Health Sector Appreciates His Excellency Biodun Oyebanji” and pledged support for his re-election.
The workers highlighted improvements in healthcare infrastructure, consistent salary payments, better working conditions, and a renewed sense of professional dignity as key achievements under Oyebanji’s leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the health workforce, Ekiti State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, described the current period as a “golden era” in health sector transformation. He credited the governor’s policies for boosting morale and enhancing service delivery.
Filani outlined several milestones, including the recruitment of over 250 health workers, the renovation of 11 general hospitals and 103 primary healthcare centres, and the construction of staff quarters. He also noted investments in ICT, solar power, water supply, and the establishment of 16 emergency operation centres across the state’s local government areas.
Other achievements cited include the implementation of revised salary structures (CONMESS and CONHESS), payment of long-overdue pensions, and the introduction of the Ulerawa Scheme, which guarantees basic healthcare services for all residents.
The commissioner also praised the successful upgrade of Ikole Specialist Hospital to a Federal Medical Centre, calling it a strategic win for regional healthcare access and development.
Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) State Chairman, Olatunde Kolapo, applauded the administration for prioritising workers’ welfare. He noted the payment of arrears, increased subventions to tertiary institutions, and the approval of the new ₦70,000 minimum wage.
“The governor has done well in the last three years and he will do more during his second term,” Kolapo said.
Governor Oyebanji, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, thanked the health workers for their support and reassured them of continued improvements in both health infrastructure and welfare policies.
