Fadairo said the LSFRS Ejigbo Station received a distress call reporting that a man had become trapped in a well while carrying out work inside it.
“Upon arrival, it was discovered that a male adult, approximately 56 years old, had become trapped while working inside a well estimated to be 80 feet deep,” the statement read.
Firefighters were able to safely extract the victim, who was found at the rear of a bungalow containing eight rooms on a 648-square-metre property.
Preliminary investigations suggest negligence may have contributed to the incident. The agency urged residents to inform authorities before undertaking potentially hazardous tasks.
Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, emphasized the importance of early notification, saying it could save lives during emergencies.
A similar incident was reported on June 8 in Ibadan, Oyo State, when a 68-year-old man fell into a well while attempting to retrieve his mobile phone. He was also rescued by firefighters and handed over to his family for medical care.
