Oyo APC Reaffirms Commitment to Zoning for Elective Positions

Date:

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has confirmed its commitment to the principle of zoning in the allocation of elective positions, following recommendations from an ad hoc committee. The decision aims to ensure fair and balanced representation across all 33 local government areas of the state.

The Ad Hoc Zoning Committee, chaired by Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle with Mr Afeez Bolaji Repete as Secretary, was inaugurated to oversee the distribution of positions and ensure a consensus-driven approach. Its recommendations were officially adopted during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Sunday, the party said in a statement signed by Publicity Secretary Wasiu Sadare.

APC stakeholders emphasized that the consensus methodology, which guided previous Ward and Local Government Area Congresses, would now govern the upcoming State Congress. The committee has already begun notifying local government chapters of the positions allocated to their representatives on the State Executive Committee.

Once notified, each local government area is expected to convene, nominate candidates, and submit them for screening by a special team from Abuja. The party stressed the importance of selecting qualified candidates, noting that the strength of APC depends on the quality of its leadership.

The party expressed confidence that the nomination and screening exercises would conclude on schedule, ahead of the inauguration of the new State Executive Committee at Obafemi Awolowo Stadium this Tuesday. APC called on all stakeholders to cooperate for a successful congress and widely accepted outcomes.
