Hoodlums suspected to be political thugs have attacked local government congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike in Oyo State.
The attacks disrupted congresses scheduled for Saturday, as members of the Wike-led faction gathered across several local government areas. Oyo State currently has two PDP factions — one aligned with Wike and the other loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde.
About ten people were reportedly attacked, and several vehicles were vandalised during the incidents. The attacks occurred at local government areas including Ibadan North, Ogbomoso North, Ibarapa Central (Igboora), and Akinyele.
The chairman of the Wike faction in Oyo State, Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso, confirmed the attacks, noting that three vehicles were damaged in Ibadan North at Gbolarumi House, Are Avenue, Bodija, and that the violence affected multiple locations across the state.
Akinoso condemned the attacks, describing them as a deliberate attempt to disrupt the party’s internal processes. He reiterated the faction’s commitment to continue its congresses despite the violence and urged security agencies to ensure the safety of party members during political activities.
