The Federal Ministry of Works has issued a travel advisory to motorists following plans to replace damaged expansion joints on the Kara Bridge, outbound Lagos, as part of ongoing infrastructure maintenance.

According to a statement signed by the Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Olayiwola Komolafe, the repair works are scheduled to begin on March 10, 2026, and are expected to last about two weeks, concluding on March 24, 2026.

Motorists were advised to use alternative routes to ease traffic congestion during the repair period. Drivers travelling from Ikorodu to Mowe, Sagamu, and Ibadan were encouraged to use the Shimawa or Mosinmi routes, while those coming from Lagos Island were advised to take the Epe corridor via Ijebu Ode to access Sagamu, Ibadan, or Mowe.

The ministry warned that shorter routes may not always be faster and urged drivers to plan their journeys early, obey traffic management instructions, and exercise caution around the construction zone. It apologised for the temporary inconvenience, stressing that the works are necessary to ensure the safety and durability of the road infrastructure.

Earlier reports indicated that the ministry had announced a six-week partial closure of sections of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway to facilitate urgent repairs on expansion joints at Kara Bridge, Magboro Bridge, and the Arepo–Punch Bridge. The Ogun State Federal Controller of Works, Michael Komolafe, said the deteriorated expansion joints posed safety risks and contributed to road crashes, assuring motorists that improved traffic management measures would be implemented to speed up the repairs.
