Peter Obi, others pay last to late Pope Francis

Date:

Former Anambra Governor and Labour Party national leader, Peter Obi on Wednesday, joined thousands of mourners and global leaders at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City to pay his final respects to the late Pope Francis.

The solemn lying-in-state ceremony marked the beginning of a series of events leading to the Pope’s funeral on Saturday, April 26.

Obi, in a post on his verified X handle, described Pope Francis as a “moral light in a world darkened by inequality and indifference,” highlighting his commitment to humility, simplicity, and selfless service.

He shared his personal experiences with the late Pope, including his membership in Scholars Occultantes, an international think-tank founded by Pope Francis.

Obi urged leaders, especially in Africa, to emulate Pope Francis’ values of justice, peace, and human dignity.

He called on leaders to reflect on the Pope’s life and legacy, committing to lead with conscience, walk with the people, and govern with love.
