Police clear 48 suspects arrested in Kwara, say no criminal links found

Date:

The Kwara State Police Command has released 48 men earlier arrested during an intelligence-led operation in Oke-Ode, Kwara State, after investigations revealed no connection to criminal activity.

The men were intercepted on September 4, 2025, along the Alade–Oreke axis while riding in clusters on 14 motorcycles. According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, security operatives recovered 43 mobile phones and other personal items during the operation.

The suspects were subjected to extensive profiling, including digital forensic examination of their mobile devices, extraction of call records, communication trails, transaction history, and geo-location mapping to determine possible links to kidnapping, banditry, or organized crime.

“After exhaustive technical profiling and background checks, no incriminating evidence or criminal affiliations were established against the suspects. Consequently, all forty-eight (48) individuals have been duly released this morning,” the statement read.

Ejire-Adeyemi emphasized that the operation was conducted with professionalism and respect for human rights. She added that the exercise demonstrated the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to act promptly on intelligence reports while ensuring that innocent citizens are not unjustly criminalized.

The Command appealed to residents of Kwara State to remain calm and vigilant, and to continue providing credible information to security agencies to help curb criminal activities in the state.
