Presidency Throws Shade: Atiku, Obi Trolled After APC Wins 12 Bye-Election Seats

Date:

The Presidency has stirred controversy after mocking opposition leaders Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, following the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s sweeping victory in last Saturday’s bye-elections.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, in a Monday morning post on X, wrote: “How is the market now?” The comment was accompanied by a photo featuring Atiku, Obi, and members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), clearly aimed at taunting the opposition.

The bye-elections were conducted to fill vacant legislative seats left open after resignations and deaths that followed the 2023 general elections. The APC secured 12 out of the 16 contested seats across 12 states. According to official results, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) clinched two seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) won one seat each. The Zamfara election, however, was declared inconclusive.

The Presidency’s jab has since fueled heated reactions, with critics accusing the ruling party of arrogance, while supporters hailed the post as a show of political dominance.
