Rasheedat Ajibade urges more sponsorship for women’s game

Date:

Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has expressed concerns over the huge disparity between male and female football, particularly in terms of financial rewards.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Leadership Podcast hosted by Stephen Akintayo, the Paris Saint-Germain forward admitted that women in the sport earn far less compared to their male counterparts. She emphasized that the difference is not even close.

Ajibade, however, acknowledged that there has been progress in recent years. She noted that women’s football has improved significantly compared to a decade ago, but maintained that the gap remains too wide.

“Female football is not as rewarding as male football. The financial reward is not even close,” she said. “To be honest, the narrative is changing compared to 10–12 years ago. Every year there is improvement, which we appreciate, but the gap is still really wide.”

According to her, the inequality in women’s football is largely due to limited awareness and a lack of sponsorship. She believes that these factors continue to hold back the growth and financial stability of female players.

Ajibade therefore appealed for stronger investment and sponsorship in women’s football, stressing that increased support would help bridge the gap and give female players the recognition and reward they deserve.
