
The Sarkin Gobir and Madawaki of Ilorin Emirate, Alhaji Yakubu Garba Gobir, has mourned the passing of Professor Yusuf Lanre Badmus, a respected Muslim scholar, academic, and community leader, who died on Friday, January 30, 2026, after a brief illness.
Professor Badmus was widely recognised as a distinguished academic and Islamic scholar. He served in several leadership capacities, including as former Dean of the Postgraduate School, University of Ilorin, and was a prominent figure in Islamic education and community service across Kwara State and beyond.
In his condolence message, Alhaji Gobir described the late scholar as an exceptional teacher and leader whose influence spanned both religious and academic communities.
“Professor Yusuf Lanre Badmus was a man of deep knowledge, humility, and unwavering commitment to the service of Islam and humanity. His scholarly contributions and moral guidance shaped generations of students and strengthened the bonds of peace and understanding within our society. His passing is a profound loss to Ilorin, Kwara State, and the entire Muslim Ummah,” Gobir said.
He expressed heartfelt sympathy to His Royal Highness, the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR; Kwara State Muslim stakeholders; the Markaz family; and the immediate family of Professor Badmus, praying that Allah grants them strength and comfort during this period of grief.
