Date:

Six individuals were kidnapped by armed bandits on Sunday along the Shagba-Babanla road in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State. The victims were traveling from Oke-Ode to Babanla when the attack occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m., according to security sources.

Among the confirmed victims are Wasiu Wahabi, Gani, Abdulateef Meco, and Alhaji Sarafa Raheem, the Chief Imam of Babanla town. Reports suggest that a Bororo man may also be among the abducted, while the identities of the remaining victims have yet to be confirmed.

Witnesses said the gunmen stormed parts of the community in the evening, forcibly taking the victims to an unknown location before fleeing after several minutes of operation. The sudden attack reportedly caused panic and heightened fear among residents of Babanla.

Local community members have expressed concern over the increasing security challenges in the area, urging relevant authorities to act promptly to ensure the safe release of the abducted individuals and restore order. Authorities are reportedly tracking the perpetrators, although no official statement has been released as of the time of reporting.

Residents have been advised to remain calm, vigilant, and cautious while security agencies work to address the situation. The incident underscores ongoing concerns about banditry and insecurity in Kwara State and surrounding communities.
