The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has confirmed the death of six final-year Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Nursing students in a fatal motor accident along the Ilorin–Ogbomoso Road on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Otte in Kwara State.
The students — Shehu Nana Firdawsi Hamza, Idris Jamila, Abdulraheem Maimunah Hamza, Blessing Kevwe, Owoicho Elizabeth and Aroke Ozavize Victoria were travelling in a commercial bus from Suleja, Niger State, to Ogbomoso for their final examinations when the crash occurred.
Describing the incident as devastating, the university said the victims were in their final year and were determined to complete their academic programme. Management expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
LAUTECH urged members of the public to pray for the families and loved ones of the deceased, calling for strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss during this period of grief.
The university also noted that the tragedy has left the academic community mourning, as the students represented hope and resilience, while concerns persist over recurring fatal accidents on the Ilorin–Ogbomoso highway.
