The First Lady of Anambra State, Dr. Nonye Soludo, celebrated her 55th birthday with a humanitarian outreach across various hospitals in the state, providing financial and medical support to patients in need.
On Thursday, Dr. Soludo visited Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital in Awka, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi, and the newly built General Hospital in Okpoko. The visits were part of a broader medical intervention program aligned with her “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo” initiative.
At the facilities, patients received free treatments, including surgical procedures, eye care, and health screenings for conditions such as hypertension, malaria, diabetes, and respiratory infections—all funded by the governor’s wife. Many patients were also given cash gifts to help cover medical expenses.
Throughout the visits, Dr. Soludo was seen engaging warmly with patients—offering prayers, words of encouragement, and personal financial support. Speaking to journalists, she explained that choosing charity over lavish celebrations has been her tradition since her single days.
“Even before I got married, I’ve always celebrated my birthdays by visiting orphans, the sick, and the less privileged,” she said. “It gives me joy to bring happiness to others. That’s what fulfillment means to me.”
Dr. Soludo called on other well-meaning Nigerians to embrace charitable acts in their own ways, noting that “making people smile doesn’t cost much.”
Later in the evening, a modest get-together was held at the Light House in Awka. Governor Chukwuma Soludo praised his wife’s compassion and sense of duty, describing her as the “engine” behind their home.
“The day I knew I was blessed was the day I won her heart,” he said, expressing gratitude for her humanitarian spirit and family values. “Behind her gentle words is a woman of steel.”
He noted that the surgeries and medical assistance offered during the outreach were supported by donations from public-spirited individuals and were a testament to the First Lady’s commitment to service.
