Tinubu approves bonuses for Super Falcons

Date:

President Bola Tinubu has approved the full payment of match bonuses and allowances for Nigeria’s Super Falcons ahead of their final clash with hosts Morocco in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, made the announcement during a media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, stating that all financial entitlements—covering players, coaches, and officials—had already been disbursed for immediate payment.

Dikko described the move as a reflection of President Tinubu’s commitment to sports development and athlete welfare, calling it “policy in motion.”

“This is a new era of sports administration built on dignity, trust, and shared prosperity. What we’re seeing is a leadership that respects and rewards excellence,” he said.

He further confirmed that the payment structure would become the norm under the current administration, eliminating delays and ensuring that athletes receive timely financial support during major competitions.

Dikko also revealed that similar support would be extended to the national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who are set to begin their 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket campaign in Côte d’Ivoire. He said the team will receive enhanced allowances and bonuses.

“This is not just about the Super Falcons; it’s about a wider reform across Nigerian sports. Future generations will remember these actions as a turning point in how we support our athletes,” Dikko added.
