Tinubu Vows to Establish State Police to Tackle Insecurity Across Nigeria

Date:

ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has pledged to establish state police as part of his administration’s efforts to tackle insecurity nationwide.

The President made the commitment yesterday evening while hosting state governors for an interfaith breaking of the fast at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, observing both Ramadan and Lent. He also reassured Nigerians that the promises he made before assuming office in 2023 would be fulfilled.

Speaking to the governors, Tinubu urged them to intensify efforts to support grassroots communities, emphasizing the importance of development and compassion regardless of religion, tribe, or social status.

“In this sacred season for Muslims and Christians alike, we are reminded that beyond politics and policy, we are first a people of conscience,” he said. “I commend the governors for their efforts so far, but I challenge them to do more — to reach the young man who feels forgotten, to lift the woman carrying her family on tired shoulders, and to touch communities where hope sometimes flickers.”

The President stressed that security is the foundation of national prosperity. “Without security, farms cannot flourish, businesses cannot grow, and families cannot sleep in peace. We will establish state police to curb insecurity. This is not about politics; it is about practicality and empowering states to protect their people while strengthening our national framework,” he said.

Tinubu added: “We must be bold enough to reform what is not working and united enough to protect what we hold dear. Nigeria will be safer, Nigeria will be stronger, and together, we must commit to making it so.”

The interfaith gathering highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration between state governments and the federal administration in addressing security challenges and delivering development at the grassroots level.
