Troops Kill Armed Suspect, Recover Weapons In Benue, Nasarawa

Date:

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have killed one armed criminal and injured several others during a security operation in Ayilamo, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Thursday in Makurdi.

According to him, the troops engaged the armed group on October 15, killing one suspect and forcing others to flee with injuries.

He said one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 14 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition were recovered from the scene.

“The troops maintained dominance in the area after the operation, conducting patrols to reassure residents and boost public confidence,” Zubairu stated.

In a separate operation the same day, troops of Sub-Sector 2 deployed at Maraba Udege, Nasarawa Local Government Area, arrested a suspect identified as Ramanu Elizabeth and recovered a locally fabricated pistol at the Maraba Market.

“The suspect and the recovered weapon are currently in custody for further investigation,” he added.

The Force Commander of OPWS, Maj.-Gen. Moses Gara, commended the troops for their professionalism and tactical efficiency.

He urged them to sustain the momentum of ongoing operations to ensure the safety of law-abiding citizens across Benue and Nasarawa states.
