UniCal Suspends Nine Students Over Exam Malpractice, Result Forgery

Date:

The University of Calabar (UniCal) has suspended nine students over allegations of examination malpractice and forgery of academic results.

The decision followed the university’s 252nd Senate meeting after reports were presented by the Ad-Hoc Senate Committee on Examination Malpractice and the Senate Students’ Disciplinary Committee, according to a statement by Registrar Dr. Chukwuka Icha.

Icha said five of the affected students were sanctioned for examination malpractice, while four others were found to have submitted forged results to the institution.

The management approved a two-academic-session suspension for the students, effective from the 2024/2025 academic year, after reviewing the committees’ recommendations.

Those suspended include Akwuba Enestina (300 Level, Pharmacy), Udom Iboro (300 Level, Pharmacy), Nwankwo Daniel (200 Level, Pharmacy), Ore Israel (500 Level, Pharmacy), and Chisom Ejafa (500 Level, Pharmacy).

Others are Lazarus Ebogo (Home Economics), Ele Godwin (Zoology), Ofem Patrick (Science Laboratory Technology), and Makailu Pamilo (Linguistics and Communication Studies).

The university has directed heads of departments, deans of the affected faculties, and the Acting Chief Security Officer to enforce and ensure full compliance with the suspension order.
