UNILORIN Clinches ₦220m FG Grant, Leaves Other Kwara Schools in the Dust

The University of Ilorin has emerged as the sole beneficiary from Kwara State in the Federal Government’s ₦4.25 billion national research grant, securing ₦220,538,834.12 for eight research projects.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, by the Director of Public Affairs at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Abdulmumini Oniyangi, and obtained by UNILORIN Bulletin.

The award followed the recommendation of the TETFund National Research Fund Screening and Monitoring Committee (NRFS&MC), which approved funding for 158 projects nationwide after a rigorous selection process that began with 6,944 concept notes submitted by researchers.

UNILORIN ranked among the top institutions with the highest number of awards, sharing the spotlight with the Federal University of Technology, Minna (15 awards, ₦400m), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (13 awards, ₦359.8m), Federal University of Technology, Akure (12 awards, ₦341.6m), Federal University of Technology, Owerri (11 awards, ₦256.3m), and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi (10 awards, ₦273.4m).

Vice Chancellor Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, hailed the grant as a major boost to the university’s service delivery, pledging that the funds would be used strictly for their intended purposes. He expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for recognising UNILORIN’s capacity to deliver impactful research.
