The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested five men for alleged involvement in armed robbery and kidnapping in Doma Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, said in a statement on Sunday that the suspects — identified as Darda’u Shehu, Yunusa Malami Hashimu, Musa Abubakar, Ibrahim Musa, and Mohammed Musa, all from Yelwa Ediya Village — were apprehended on Saturday at a criminal hideout in the community by officers from the Doma Division.

According to police, the suspects confessed to abducting a serving councillor on May 26 and robbing him of two mobile phones valued at N250,000 and N20,000. They were also accused of mounting a roadblock along the Doma–Yelwa Road on July 19, attacking a resident, Ibrahim Haruna, and snatching his Bajaj motorcycle, which they later sold for N970,000. About N100,000 from the proceeds was recovered.

In a separate operation, officers from the Keana Division arrested a 20-year-old herder, Suleman Mohammadu, around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, following a distress call from residents of Gidan Zaki Hassan, Kuduku, in Keana LGA. Locals had reported that herders were grazing on their farmlands and opened fire when confronted. Police recovered an AK-47 magazine loaded with six live rounds from the suspect.

State Commissioner of Police, Shettima Mohammed, ordered that all suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution. He urged residents to obey the law and provide credible information to aid policing efforts.

The arrest comes weeks after two suspected robbers were apprehended in Lafia in connection with the theft of a Toyota Corolla.
