We won’t entertain unnecessary distractions — UNILORIN VC

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has debunked the rumour making round on the alleged illegal promotion of his wife, Dr. (Mrs) Taiwo Ambali, to the rank of Senior Lecturer.

Prof. Ambali disclosed that the promotion of any academic staff is the sole responsibility of the Appointment and Promotion Committee, (APC), stressing that Dr. (Mrs) Ambali was duly promoted following legal procedures.

The VC stated this at an interactive session with journalists at the University’s conference room on Saturday stressing that, “we shall face what we promised the people and not entertain unnecessary distractions”.

Stressing further, the VC noted that, “My wife commenced her career at the University of Maiduguri as a Lecturer II Officer in 2006 and was promoted to Lecturer I in 2009. She later transferred her service to the University of llorin and was recently promoted to the rank of Senior Lecturer by the AP&C. This act was sequel to the approval of both the department and faculty management team.”

Prof. Ambali added that University system is run on committee basis stressing that “nobody can singlehandedly do anything without due process and approval of the committee concern and such decision will also be carefully scrutinize before final approval is given.”

While reacting to allegations of withdrawal of about 2, 000 fresh students of the University as contained in a petition issued a group under the guise of Citizen Action to Take Back Nigeria (CATBAN), Prof Ambali stressed that the concern students are 711 contrary to the content of the allegation.
He noted that the students were withdrawn “because they attempted to misguide the University by submitting wrong O’Level results contrary to what they uploaded during their admission screenings.

“Their actions are tantamount to certificate forgery and malpractice which ought to be prosecuted in the court of law for appropriate sanction.”

He however described the group as causing unnecessary distraction by embarking on frivolous and unwarranted accusation which cannot assist the society even as he urged the general public to disregard the rumour.

Also, the VC expressed satisfaction over the budget proposal and defense made to the National Assembly for the 2017 financial stating that, “All went well with us at both the Federal House of Representatives and the Senate.”

He however described the investment of the University in the agricultural sector by embarking on palm oil plantation as well plantation of economic trees as one the major aims towards sustaining the revenue generation of the institution among others.

“After the expiration of our gestation period which is about two years time, we are sure that we would be able to pay ourselves salaries as well as other entitlements conveniently”, he added.
