A total of 1, 715 Corps members on Thursday took oath of allegiance for Batch C orientation course in Kwara.
The swearing in took place at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Yikpata, Edu local government of Kwara.
NYSC State Coordinator in Kwara, Mrs Ikupolati Esther Tosin, who made this known in her welcome address, said the Corps members sworn in were made up of 878 females and 837 males.
The oath of allegiance was administered by the Chief Judge who was represented by Justice S.L. Akanbi.
Ikupolati told the Corps members that there would be strict observance of regimentation in all activities during the three weeks orientation course.
“The orientation course would also include training in physical fitness and mental alertness, lectures, social and sporting activities which will equip you for the challenges during and after the service year.
“You are therefore strongly advised to conform accordingly and also ensure active participation in all camp activities, while living harmoniously with one another,” Kupolati said.
The State Coordinator congratulated the Corps members for successfully completing their academic pursuits from their various institutions of learning.
She admonished the Corps members to exhibit the same level of commitment in all the duties that would be assigned to them in the course of the National Service.
Kupolati commended the Senate President, Bukola Saraki for renovating four hostels, camp clinic and meal subsidy for Corps members.
“I wish to solicit for the cooperation of all camp officials and all corps members towards ensuring a hitch-free orientation exercise,” the Coordinator added.
The State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, who declared the camp open advised the corps members to take full advantage of the orientation program and adapt to their new environment.
The governor was represented by the Head of Service, Mrs Susan Oluwole.
Ahmed congratulated the corps members on their successful completion of their studies from their various institutions of learning.
He said that the government would continue to support the activities of the NYSC.
“Let me say at this juncture that, the Government is not unaware of the not-too-conducive conditions of our orientation camp.
“However, the good news is that concerted efforts are being made to improve on the existing camp facilities.
“The government is not folding its arms in this direction especially the corps members, so bear with us for now, as the current situation of the camp will soon be a thing of the past,” Ahmed added.
Chairman of Edu Local Government donated a cow and ten mattresses to the Corps members while the Head of Service, Mrs Oluwole gave the Coordinator money to buy another cow for the corps members.
