A group from Nigeria’s Middle Belt region has called on former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to return to national leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging him to reconsider active participation in the country’s political landscape.
The group said Jonathan’s past leadership experience, commitment to democratic values, and perceived ability to unite diverse groups across the country make him a suitable figure to help address Nigeria’s current political and socio-economic challenges.
According to the group, the country is in need of experienced leadership capable of promoting national stability, strengthening democratic institutions, and fostering inclusive governance.
Members also argued that Jonathan’s reputation for respecting democratic processes, particularly his peaceful concession of defeat in the 2015 Nigerian Presidential Election, continues to earn him respect both locally and internationally.
They therefore urged the former president to heed calls from supporters and stakeholders who believe his return could contribute to national unity and political stability as the country approaches the 2027 elections.
