Lawmakers approve N288bn supplementary budget for FCTA

The House of Representatives on Thursday approved the release of N288 billion Supplementary budget for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

The Supplementary budget was passed after the consideration and adoption of the recommendations presented by the Chairman, House Committee on FCT chaired by Hon. Aliyu Betara.

While giving synopsis of the report, Hon. Betara explained that the Bill was a referral from the House as a result of the request from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to him, the committee sat within themselves as well as their counterparts from the Senate and harmonized their decisions in line with the relevant rules.

Hon. Betara further revealed that the requirements were to take care of much-needed infrastructural developments within the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the report considered during the Committee in Supply chaired by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, out of the total sum of N288 billion, the sum of N31 billion is for Overhead Costs; while the sum of N256.900 billion is for Capital Projects for the financial year ending 31st December, 2024.

According to the schedule of the supplementary budget, the breakdown of the N31 billion approved for Recurrent Non-Debt Expenditure showed that FCTA Overhead Costs stands at N15 billion; Health & Human Services Secretariat Overhead Costs – N100 million; Youth Department Overhead Costs – N11 billion; FCT Water Board Overhead Costs – N2.100 billion; Abuja Environmental Protection Board Overhead Costs – N2.900 billion.

From the N256.900 billion earmarked for Capital Expenditure, Engineering Services, FCDA gets N110.400 billion; Public Building – FCDA – N41 billion; Resettlement and Compensation Department – N2.500 billion; Facilities Maintenance and Management Department – N20 billion; while Satellite Towns Development Department gets N83 billion.
