El-Rufai Criticizes Tinubu, Cites High Disapproval Ratings

Mallam Nasir El-Rufai

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, citing widespread public dissatisfaction and poor performance in key sectors.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Monday, El-Rufai claimed that Tinubu’s leadership has failed to deliver improvements in security, the economy, and trade policies since taking office in May 2023.The former governor, who is now affiliated with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), said internal polling conducted by his team indicates that Tinubu has a 91 percent disapproval rating in the northern and southeastern regions of the country.

“In Lagos, he has a 78 percent disapproval rating,” El-Rufai said. “In the Southwest, he is doing slightly better, particularly in Ondo and Ekiti states, but even there, his approval does not exceed 50 percent.”

He argued that the public should evaluate their own conditions under Tinubu’s administration and consider whether alternative leadership is necessary.

“If your life has improved since May 29, 2023, that’s fine,” he said. “But if not, why not give someone else a chance?”

El-Rufai alleged that despite increased revenue generation, the government has failed to produce tangible results, leaving many questioning how public funds are being utilized.

He added that the federal government’s lack of coherent policies on trade and investment, coupled with rising insecurity, has further deepened public frustration.

“The economy has stalled, and the security architecture has collapsed. Everything seems to be heading in the wrong direction,” he said.

The presidency has yet to respond to El-Rufai’s remarks.
