A Nigerian driver identified simply as Kingsley has drowned at Tarkwa-Bay Beach in Lagos during a leisure trip with two Indian expatriates.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Sunday. Quoting police sources, Makama disclosed via X (formerly Twitter) that Kingsley, who drove the expatriates to the beach for relaxation, entered the water shortly after their arrival and was swept away by strong currents.

β€œAll efforts to rescue him proved abortive,” the source said, noting that the victim was declared missing shortly after the incident.

The two Indian nationals, reportedly attached to Dangote Company in Lekki, later reported the matter to the Tarkwa-Bay Police Division. Detectives from the division visited the scene to assess the situation, and search efforts to recover the body are ongoing.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, could not be reached for comments. As of the time of filing this report, calls and messages to his phone had not been returned.

This is not the first drowning incident reported in the area. In October 2024, a 45-year-old man named Kazeem reportedly drowned in Odo Tente, a river boundary between Lagos and Ogun states. He was said to have been under the influence of a hard drug suspected to be Colorado before jumping into the river.
