Gobir commends IEDPU over youth empowerment initiative
By Arowona Abdulazeez
A Social Entrepreneur and Waziri’n Hausa, Alhaji Yakubu Garba Gobir, has commended the initiative of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) for the training and issuance of certificates to 236 youths in Ilorin Emirate under the Union’s entrepreneurial scheme.
Gobir, in a statement issued in Ilorin on Thursday, noted that the gesture would go a long way to reduce youth restiveness in the Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State in general.
He further added that if scaled up, this initiative by the IEDPU could help break the cycle of poverty that has gripped Kwara State for several decades.
He also commended Alhaji Abdulhameed Adi and the entire leadership of IEDPU for this landmark achievement.
The social entrepreneur who funded the training programme said he was delighted that the money he donated to the IEDPU was judiciously spent.
Alhaji Gobir promised to contribute more to the development of the Youth in Kwara State.
He however pledged that his next donation would address the financial needs of graduates of the programmes so that they can purchase equipment and have working capital to start up their businesses.
ROYAL NEWS reports that the Waziri’n Hausa further appealed to Youth not to rely so much on Government “white collar” jobs.
“We all know that the State Government is struggling financially making it difficult to pay salaries. By becoming entrepreneurs and business owners in their own right, the Youth of the Kwara State will be in control of their own destiny and become employers of labour themselves”, he added.
