Spanish footballer Carles Perez has been hospitalised following a freak accident in which he sustained a dog bite to his genitals. The 27-year-old, currently on loan at Aris Thessaloniki from Celta Vigo, was reportedly trying to break up a fight involving his own dog when the incident occurred.
According to The Mirror, the forward was taken to a private hospital in Panorama, near Thessaloniki, where he received six stitches. Although the injury is not life-threatening, Perez remains under medical observation and may need surgery. His timeline for return to the pitch remains uncertain.
As a result, Perez has been ruled out of Aris Thessaloniki’s UEFA Europa Conference League qualifier against Araz-Naxçıvan PFK. The Greek side trails 2–1 from the first leg.
Aris manager Marinos Ouzounidis confirmed Perez had been set to start the match. “Carles would have been in the starting line-up. This incident happened but we can’t dwell on it. We’ve worked on alternative solutions,” he said. The coach stressed the need for players with character to step up in Perez’s absence.
Perez previously played for Barcelona, where he spent eight years before moving to Italy and then Spain. He now faces an extended period on the sidelines as he recovers.
