Ajibade: Falcons Yet to Get Tinubu Reward

Date:

Captain of Nigeria’s women’s national football team, Rasheedat Ajibade, has disclosed that the squad is yet to receive the $100,000 cash gift promised to them by President Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu had announced the reward during a reception in honour of the Super Falcons, following their triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. In addition to the cash prize, the players and coaching staff were also promised houses and national honours.

However, speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade revealed that none of the commitments had been fulfilled.

“We have not received our money, but hopefully, it would be paid,” she said. “They have not paid. All the promises, we have not received anything.”

The revelation comes a week after President Tinubu made a similar pledge of $100,000, houses, and national honours to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship.
