The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 148 Nigerian returnees from Sudan as part of ongoing efforts to repatriate citizens caught in foreign crises.
In a statement on Saturday, NEMA said the group arrived on Friday afternoon aboard a chartered Tarco Aviation flight that landed at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport around 2:30 p.m.
The returnees comprised 25 men, 27 women, 39 boys, and 57 girls.
Upon arrival, they were taken to Chila Hotel in Kano for profiling and documentation by relevant agencies.
NEMA confirmed that the returnees were not placed under any reintegration programme but were given transport stipends through ATM cards after completing the documentation process.
“The returnees were not enrolled in any reintegration programme and were discharged after being provided transport fare shortly after the completion of documentation and profiling,” the agency stated.
The operation, according to NEMA, was “well-coordinated and successfully executed.”
The evacuation follows ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has displaced millions and continues to strain the country’s infrastructure.
The Federal Government, working with NEMA and international partners, said it will continue monitoring developments in Sudan while providing support for Nigerians affected by the crisis.
NEMA also noted that it is collaborating with international organisations on broader migrant issues, while agencies such as the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) remain active in rescuing Nigerians from trafficking networks abroad.
