Kolobigi FC of Lafiagi emerged champions of the 2026 Kwara State Inter-Local Government Areas Peace and Unity Football Tournament (AIPUFT), defeating Tsado FC of Tsaragi in a dramatic penalty shootout. The thrilling final, held in Tsaragi, Edu Local Government Area, ended goalless after 90 minutes before Kolobigi FC converted the decisive spot-kicks to claim the title and the ₦500,000 grand prize.
The two-week grassroots tournament featured 16 teams drawn from Edu, Patigi, Moro, Ifelodun and Kaiama Local Government Areas. It kicked off on February 1 following a formal draw on January 28 and concluded with a high-stakes finale that drew strong community support.
Beyond the cash reward for the champions, organisers provided participating teams with jerseys and FIFA-standard footballs. Individual excellence was also recognised with Golden Boot, Golden Glove and Man of the Match awards presented to standout performers.
Speaking after the victory, Kolobigi FC representative Habibullah described the triumph as a product of mental preparation and teamwork, noting that the squad had prepared for every possible scenario, including penalties. He dedicated the win to the club’s founder, Mohammed Idris Nasara, for his commitment to grassroots talent development.
Chief organiser Aliyu Isa Edu, founder of AFA Football Academy Lafiagi, said the tournament was designed not only to crown a winner but to promote peace, unity and youth empowerment across participating local government areas in Kwara State.
