Eucharia Anunobi Reveals Son’s Long Fight Against Sickle Cell Disease

Date:

Veteran Nollywood actress and evangelist Eucharia Anunobi has shared the painful experience of losing her son after he battled sickle cell disease for more than 16 years. She recounted the struggle during an appearance on the Honest Brunch Podcast, reflecting on the challenges of caring for a child born with the SS genotype.

Anunobi revealed that her son fell seriously ill just before his first birthday, prompting medical tests that confirmed he had sickle cell disease. She described this as “the battle of my life” and began an intensive search for ways to manage his condition.

The actress detailed the strict precautions she took to protect her son’s health, including avoiding dusty or hot environments and ensuring he never drank unclean water. She also researched medications, herbal remedies, and best practices for caring for a child with sickle cell disorder.

Despite the hardships, Anunobi described the years spent raising her son as deeply fulfilling. She said, “The joy of having nurtured a child for 16 years, six months and 22 days those years were one of the most glorious years of my life.”

The experience, she added, strengthened her faith and deepened her relationship with God. “I’m grateful to God for making me a mother, and I learnt so much in the course of taking care of him,” she said, highlighting the spiritual and personal growth that came from her journey.
