A soldier has been killed and another injured following an ambush on troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.
The incident was reported by security analyst Zagazola Makama, who cited security sources in a post on Tuesday.
According to the report, the attack occurred around 12:53 p.m. on May 4 along the SPDC–Etekuru road. The troops had reportedly been deployed to assess a burnt Hilux vehicle when they came under heavy gunfire from suspected terrorists.
A fierce exchange of gunfire followed the ambush, resulting in the death of one soldier, while another sustained injuries.
The attackers were said to have fled the scene with two AK-47 rifles and also partially damaged a military vehicle during the confrontation.
Reinforcements were quickly mobilised to the area, forcing the assailants to retreat.
Subsequent clearance operations led to the discovery of two burnt vehicles and the bodies of two unidentified individuals. The corpses were later evacuated to a hospital morgue as investigations continue.
