Kwara Govt set to boost poultry business

Date:

The Kwara Government says it will boost the poultry sector through the rehabilitation of some public poultry facilities across the three senatorial districts of the state.

Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq made this known at the inauguration of the newly elected state executive members of the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) in Ilorin on Friday.

AbdulRasaq was represented at the ceremony by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hajia Maryam Nurudeen.

He explained that the livestock sub-sector is one of the core pillars of the recently launched 10 years State Agricultural Transformation Plan of the present administration, which shows the priority placed on the sector.

AbdulRazaq

further stated that when executed, the project would have the capacity to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs for teeming youths and women; been the main target of the project in addition to its nutritional benefits to the people.

In his inaugural address, the elected Chairman, Mr Richard Akinwumi, disclosed that PAN under his stewardship would be partnership driven with a view to solve the existing problem of unemployment.

He said his tenure would also encourage massive production of poultry related products to residents and beyond and massive production of protein for export as a driver for economic recovery and development.

Akinwumi stressed that PAN would continue to solidify the association’s partnership with the state government to ensure proper implementation of the School Feeding Programme, Poultry Out-Grower Schemes.

According to him, the association will also assist in bringing back the popular Young Farmers Club in secondary schools to educate and give practical knowledge to young school leavers, among other programmes.
