Kwara govt releases update on Tanke/UNILORIN road flyover project

The Kwara State Government has assured members of the University of Ilorin community and residents of Tanke and the adjourning communities that the ongoing construction of flyover bridge at Tanke would be completed soon to ensure free flow of traffic and stimulate economic activities.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kwara State, Mr.Rafiu Ajakaye, stated this while participating on Oro To Nlo, a popular current affairs programme of UNILORIN 89.3 FM.The programme was anchored by the Head of the Station, Mr. Idris Akintola Ibrahim(Alooma).

Mr. Ajakaye said that the project,which is located on the road he described as “the gateway to the University of Ilorin”, has attained 55% completion and that all things being equal the project would be completed and put to use by or before December, 2022.

The Governor’s spokesman explained that the construction of the flyover bridge was embarked upon as a way of restoring the hitherto neglected Ilorin Master plan and opening up that axis of the State capital for more orderly development,saying that Ilorin,and particularly Tanke suburb, was and would continue to attract more population as time prgresses.

The Chief Press Secretary added that the completion of the flyover bridge would ensure that transportation to and from the University Main campus and the surrounding communities would be free as such would also be of benefit to the peoples of adjourning communities.

Speaking on the University of Ilorin,Mr.Ajakaye described the University as a pace setter and an important partner in progress to the Kwara State Government since its establishment about five decades ago.

While acknowledging the contributions of the University to the development of Kwara State,the foremost journalist explained that the nation’s most sought after University is an heritage that is well cherished by the government and people of Kwara State.

He recalled that the Kwara State Government had patronised products and services emanating from the University in so many instances in the past and would continue to do so for mutual benefits.

He assured that the government of Kwara State was prepared to support the University in every way possible with a view to assisting the institution in achieving its corporate objectives.

Ajakaye explained that the Kwara State Government was also doing everything possible to ensure that the state school system is technology-compliant to generate competent products who would be able to raise their heads any where in the globe.

He further disclosed that all the schools in four of the 16 Local Government Area of the State are now inter-connected via technology introduced through the KwaraLEARN programme to ensure accountability in service delivery which would enhance teaching and learning.

The governor’s aide hinted that the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq,the State SUBEB Chairman and its functionaries and officials in charge of the Quality Assurance Division are now empowered to monitor what happens in public schools across Offa,Ilorin East ,Ilorin West and Baruten Local Government Areas of the State.

He said the programme will be extended to other parts of the state, as the four local governments are to test-run the modern system.

Ajakaye, who spoke on other issues,implored citizens to remain law-abiding, patient and supportive of the administration of Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to enable it serve them better.
