After Three Days of Losses, Naira Gains ₦2.27 vs Dollar

Date:

The Naira recorded its first appreciation of the week against the United States Dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Thursday.

According to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the local currency strengthened to ₦1,471.02 per dollar on Thursday, compared to ₦1,473.29 recorded on Wednesday, when it hit its lowest level of the week.

The modest recovery represents a ₦2.27 gain on a day-to-day basis, marking the first positive movement since Monday.

However, despite the slight rebound, the Naira has yet to fully recover from losses sustained earlier in the week.

At the parallel (black) market, the Naira traded flat at ₦1,500 per dollar, according to Bureau de Change (BDC) operators in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s external reserves stood at $42.67 billion as of October 15, 2025, slightly up from $42.65 billion recorded the previous day, based on CBN data.
