Nigeria’s Super Falcons ended their historic 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign not just with the trophy—but with a clean sweep of top individual honours, underlining their supremacy in African women’s football.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) after an electrifying series of performances that drove Nigeria to a record 10th WAFCON title. The pacey winger and former Atlético Madrid star was a relentless force throughout the tournament, earning three Woman of the Match awards and playing a pivotal role in Nigeria’s 3–2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the final.
At the back, Chiamaka Nnadozie was rock solid. The Super Falcons’ dependable goalkeeper and recent Brighton signing clinched the Best Goalkeeper Award after a stellar campaign that saw her concede just two goals—all in the final. Her heroics in the semi-final against defending champions South Africa were especially crucial, reinforcing her status as one of Africa’s elite shot-stoppers.
Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak secured the Golden Boot with five goals, including a strike in the final that briefly gave the Atlas Lionesses hope. But it wasn’t enough to stop Nigeria’s relentless march to glory.
South Africa, though narrowly missing the podium, were recognised for their integrity on the field with the Fair Play Award—acknowledging their exemplary discipline and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
The 13th edition of WAFCON not only spotlighted the rising quality of women’s football across the continent but also reaffirmed Nigeria’s legacy. With 10 titles from 10 final appearances, the Super Falcons remain the undisputed queens of African football.
