HISTORIC COMEBACK: Echeginni seals Super Falcons’ 10th WAFCON triumph over Morocco

Date:

Nigeria’s Super Falcons completed a breathtaking comeback to clinch their record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, defeating host nation Morocco 3-2 in a dramatic final on Saturday night in Rabat.

The Atlas Lionesses took early control at the Olympic Stadium, storming to a 2-0 lead in the first half with goals from Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaâ Mssoudy. But the resilient Falcons came out firing after the break, with key substitutions proving decisive.

Rinsola Babajide and Jennifer Echeginni injected fresh energy into the squad, as Esther Okoronkwo converted a penalty to cut the deficit. Ijamilusi then struck the equalizer, turning the tide.

The unforgettable moment arrived late in the game when Echeginni hammered home the winner, completing one of the greatest turnarounds in WAFCON history and cementing Nigeria’s legacy as the queens of African women’s football.
