
The newly deployed Acting Area Controller of Customs in Kwara State, Najeem Akanmu Ogundeyi, on Tuesday disclosed that he had made several attempts to visit the palace of the Emir of Ilorin without any iota of luck.
Ogundeyi spoke at the palace of the Emir of Ilorin on Tuesday when he paid His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari royal homage.
The Customs boss stressed that the purpose of the visit was to seek the Emir’s support and receive his royal blessings to ensure effective performance of their duties.
He added that during his failed attempts, he intended to have face-to-face privilege contact stressing, “When I an Inspector of Customs, I came to the palace to try my luck if I will see the Emir, unfortunately for me, Noooooo way. I came back again when I Suprimtended of Customs, unfortunately for me, Noooooo way.”
Speaking further, Ogundeyi added that, “Today, I am the most happiest person on earth because immediately I was posted to Kwara in Acting Area Controller capacity, I told the PRO that the first place to visit is the palace of the Emir in order to fulfil my dream of meeting the Emir.
“Today, I have the privilege of seeing the Emir, shaking the Emir and talking to the Emir. That’s my lifetime dream and I have achieved it to day.”
He however called for increased support from the Emir of Ilorin to enable him perform his duties diligently and excellently even as he described the Emir as the father of all and emphasized that with the Emir’s support, the Command would operate more effectively.
In response, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, expressed appreciation to the team led by Comptroller Akanmu-Ogundeyi for the visit.
Alhaji Sulu-Gambari reassured his continued support for the Command and extended his gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for appointing committed, dedicated, and professional officers to various Commands across the country.
