Ensure safety of schools’ environment, Kente tasks stakeholders

Chairman of the North East Development Commission Education Endowment Fund, Mr. David Sabo Kente, has called on stakeholders in the education sector to always ensure that schools’ environment are fully secured for effective teachings and learnings.
Specifically, Kente charged the government at all levels, traditional and religious leaders, parents, youths and security agencies, among others to cooperate and support each other with a view to putting an end to kidnapping and violent attacks on schools in the country.
He spoke at the 2021 Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN Headquarters Chapel held at the weekend in Abuja.
Kente, who is also a Federal Commissioner in the commission, affirmed that one of the most critical aspects of encouraging education today across the country was the ability to create a conducive and safe learning environment for pupils and students.
While emphasizing the need for every Nigerian to work towards the collective goal of ensuring security in schools across the country, he commended the FRCN Chapel for the theme selected for this year’s NUJ Week tagged: “Effective Border Security; A Panacea for Safe Schools and Society”.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary, Border Community Development Agency, Captain Junaid Abdullahi represented by the Head of Department, Planning, Inter-Governmental and Community Relations, Mallam Ibrahim Kwajafa disclosed that efforts were in top gear between the department and relevant stakeholders to improve border security.
Also speaking, the Director General of Dr. Mansur Liman represented by a Deputy Director of News, Mr. Olufemi Fulani stressed the need to improve educational content that provides for creativity both in learning and safety.
Earlier, the chairman, FRCN Chapel of NUJ, Comrade Sandra Udeike informed that the event was designed to provide solutions to the high rate of insecurity bedevelling the nation, especially institutions of learning.
“Insecurity has taken worrisome dimensions especially as our innocent children are now being kidnapped from schools.
“This particular dimension of the insecurity situation gives every parent sleepless nights.
“I therefore want to use this opportunity to call on government at all levels, to take issues of safe school very serious, I urge them to provide adequate security in all schools. I also advise parents to be deliberate in checking properly before chosing schools for their wards,” she stressed.
The event featured merit media awards presented to some staff of FRCN, which was sponsored by a Benue State governorship aspirant for the 2023 election and former Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom, Mr. Terver Akase.
