Family Seeks Help as Kidnappers Demand ₦20m for Female Footballer

The family of Ihotu John Rebecca has appealed for public assistance after the Nigerian footballer was kidnapped along the Benin Expressway, with abductors demanding ₦20 million in ransom.

Rebecca, who plays for Pacesetter Queens FC in the NWFL Premiership, was reportedly abducted while returning home. Her family confirmed that the kidnappers are insisting on the payment of ₦20 million for her release.

Describing the situation as urgent, the family stressed that the young athlete has devoted her career to representing Nigerian women’s football at the highest domestic level. They warned that her safety remains at risk as negotiations continue.

The family has called on football stakeholders, club officials, sponsors, government authorities, sports administrators and other well-meaning Nigerians to intervene and support efforts aimed at securing her release.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident as security agencies intensify efforts to track the abductors and rescue the player.
