Govt will soon commence distribution of palliatives in Benue— Commissioner

Benue State government has expressed its determination to commence the distribution of palliatives to relevant stakeholders in the state very soon.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Mr.Aondowase Kunde, made the declaration on Friday while speaking to journalists in his office in Makurdi, Benue State.

He explained that all hands were on deck towards sharing the palliatives when other existengencies resurfaced abruptly resulting to disorganised the planned.

The Commissioner further stated that in the course of trying to achieve Internal running suddenly the minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and Alleviation Dr.Betta Edu visited and laid foundation for cluster resettlements homes with a view to relocating Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in their camps when completed.

“Therefore, His Excellency, Governor Dr. Fr Hyacinth Alia has not been stable in recent times due to enormous challenges at his disposal for trying to fix the fragile challenges.

Kunde was opmistic that in no distant future, the matter would soon be resolved adding that efforts are been explored in other facets to further ensure conducive environment to enhance rapid recovery for the populace.

Speaking in another vein, the Commissioner noted that the federal government in her wisdom offered to construct 20 units of cluster resettlement, noting that other Donors agency for instance United Nations also other spirited individuals has expressed willingness to collaborate efforts for Internally Displaced Persons in the camps IDPS to relocate to their ancestral homes

“Beside these figures, the federal government made another commitment to provide 200 units of resettlement homes in Benue State to cater for their well-being:

According to him, reiterating that work of the housing units across the three senatorial Districts for cluster resettlement homes, stressing these projects is expected to handle by themselves.

“Though, artisans would be source locally, absolving any involvement of politicians in the State.”

Recalling that the acurate affected number of LGAS includes Kwande, Ukum, Agatu, Logo, Katsina – Ala, Gwer West, Makurdi as well as Guma, arguing there is no concrete statistics of Internally Displaced Persons in the camps, but efforts are been intensified to obtained authentic number.

In his comment, the Chairman of Correspondents Chapel on Benue NUJ, Comrade Emmanuel Antswen, stressed the need for partnership between his Chapel and the Commissioner’s office for effective balance of reports among other things.
