Insecurity: Alex Barbir Urges Nigerians to Take Self-Defence Into Their Own Hands

Date:

US-based humanitarian worker Alex Barbir has denied allegations that his activities and public comments have contributed to violence in Nigeria, insisting that his work is focused on protecting vulnerable communities and supporting reconstruction efforts in conflict-affected areas.

Speaking on TVC News, Barbir rejected claims linking him to unrest in Plateau and Benue states, saying his advocacy through initiatives such as Building Zion and Equipping the Persecuted (ETP) is aimed at rebuilding communities affected by violence, including homes, schools, and places of worship.

He also dismissed suggestions that his visit to Plateau State was connected to a reprisal attack that left two people dead, stating that the incident occurred before his arrival and describing attempts to link him to the violence as a “false narrative.”

Barbir maintained that he has never incited violence, stressing instead that his message focuses on improved security and the right of individuals in unsafe areas to defend themselves when the government fails to provide protection.

Despite the controversy, he reaffirmed his commitment to continue humanitarian work in Nigeria, including reconstruction projects in Benue and Plateau states, while rejecting allegations of foreign or political influence behind his activities.
