Kwara Fiscal Commission Inspects Kaiama LG Projects for Transparency and Accountability

Kaiama, Kwara State – In a bid to promote Prudence, Transparency, and Accountability (PTA) in the use of public funds, the Kwara State Fiscal Responsibility Commission (KWFRC) has inspected completed and ongoing projects executed by the Kaiama Local Government Council.

Leading the inspection team, the Chairman of the Commission, Barrister. Abubakar Othman stated that the Commission is mandated to monitor the implementation of government projects across the state, including at the local government level, to ensure that taxpayers’ money is used judiciously.

“Aside from the Kwara State House of Assembly through its oversight role, the Fiscal Responsibility Commission is the only body empowered to monitor and ensure transparency in project execution across all tiers of government,” he noted.

Welcoming the team, Chairman of Kaiama Local Government, Alhaji Danladi Abdullahi Abubakar, commended the Commission for its proactive efforts, describing the visit as a timely “wake-up call” to do more in delivering meaningful development projects to the people.

Also speaking during the visit, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Yusuf, a Commission member representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, lauded the local government’s commitment to community development and encouraged the council not to relent in delivering impactful projects to grassroots communities.

✅ Projects Inspected
Among the projects reviewed during the inspection were:

✅ Construction of two classrooms with an office at Bezira Primary School

✅ Drainage construction at Kibefande area, Kaiama Town

✅ Installation of a 200 KVA transformer at Osiwera Street, Kaiama

✅ Renovation of a primary healthcare centre and staff quarters at Kanikoko

✅ Perimeter fencing (150m x 135m) at Aboki Primary School

✅ Renovation of a children’s clinic at Gbesara

✅ Refurbishment of the Islamiya Primary School library complex

✅ Renovation of the GDSS school hall along New Bussa Road

✅ Construction of 8 new office blocks with 4 toilets for council staff

✅ Drilling and installation of a motorized solar-powered borehole at the Military Barracks, Kaiama

The Commission assured the local government that periodic inspections would continue across all 16 LGAs to ensure consistency in service delivery and alignment with budgetary expectations.

Barr. Othman urged other local government councils across the state to emulate Kaiama’s effort in infrastructure and service provision, while also remaining accountable to the public.
