Kwara pledges support to National Sugar Development Council

Date:

Kwara Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has urged the National Assembly to fashion laws to improve the production of the country’s basic needs with a view to reducing the nation’s over dependence on imported goods.

The governor said this on Wednesday, when he received the House of Representatives Committee on Industry and members of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), in his office.

Represented by his Deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, the governor said that Kwara was blessed with fertile soil and mineral resources that can attract foreign and local investors.

AbdulRazaq assured that all issues raised by the NSDC would be fully resolved, while pledging the state government’s cooperation with the sugar industry.

The chairman of House Committee on Industry, Dr Enitan Badru, said the committee was in Kwara to perform some oversight functions, noting that Kwara was playing a critical role in sugar production in the country.

The Executive Secretary of the NSDC, Mr Zacch Adedeji, explained that when the sugar plants in Kwara commence operation, the state’s internally generated revenue will rise significantly.

”About 50,000 people will be employed with the opportunities created, among other benefits,” he said.
