Kwara Senator Trains Youths, Distributes 200 Computers

Date:

The Senator representing Kwara South and Deputy Senate Leader, Lola Ashiru, has trained 60 youths in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and distributed 200 personal computers to beneficiaries across the state.

The initiative, which took place in Offa on Wednesday, was described as part of the senator’s ongoing empowerment programmes targeting constituents in the seven local government areas of the district.

Speaking on behalf of the senator, his Senior Legislative Aide, Yunus Alabi, said the training is the fifth in a series since Ashiru assumed office.

He noted that the programme, which coincided with the Ramadan period, provided accommodation as well as Sahur and Iftar meals for participants who travelled from outside Oyun and Offa local government areas.

According to Alabi, the beneficiaries were drawn from diverse backgrounds, including students, artisans, traders, and other small business owners, and cut across different political affiliations.

He explained that the training focused on practical digital skills such as website design, aimed at enabling participants to leverage technology to improve their businesses and productivity.

“The world is increasingly driven by technology. This programme is designed to expose our youths to opportunities in ICT and how they can apply them to their trades and services,” he said.

In addition to the training and distribution of computers, participants were also given transport allowances to support their return journeys.

Alabi expressed optimism that the initiative would enhance digital literacy, strengthen small businesses, and contribute to socio-economic development in the district, adding that similar programmes are planned for the future.

Some beneficiaries, including Ajewole Josephine and Balogun Ayodeji, commended the senator, noting that the training and equipment would significantly improve their digital skills and business operations.
