The League of Imams in Lagos State has urged Nigerians to refrain from participating in protests that could disrupt peace, stressing that the current period should be devoted to prayer and reflection rather than demonstrations.
The appeal follows protests in parts of the country, including Lagos, over the recent US–Israeli strikes on Iran that reportedly led to the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, and heightened global tensions.
Sheikh Abdul Rahman Ahmad, Chief Missioner of the Ansarudeen Society, made the call during the 2026 Ramadan Tafsir programme held at Lagos House, Ikeja. He urged citizens to avoid joining protests without understanding their implications, warning that such actions could result in unnecessary violence and instability.
Ahmad said Ramadan and other religious seasons should be used to pray for peace and stability in Lagos and across Nigeria. He cautioned against actions that could worsen economic challenges or trigger social unrest, noting that citizens should not contribute to problems if they cannot offer solutions.
He also called on clerics to use their platforms to promote unity and discourage disaffection, urging Nigerians to prioritise harmony and avoid repeating disruptions experienced during past protests.
